About Phoenix Arizona

Phoenix is America’s fifth-largest city and still has real cowboys and rugged mountains and the kind of cactus most people see only in cartoons. Phoenix is the gateway to the Grand Canyon, and its history is a testament to the spirit of puebloans, ranchers, miners and visionaries. The city of Phoenix was established in 1868. Two years later, the first survey and census of the city noted it was about a mile long and a half-mile wide, with 74 dwellings and a population of 250. Today, Greater Phoenix covers about 2,000 square miles and the population exceeds 3.8 million.

Greater Phoenix’s average annual temperature is 72 degrees, and the average annual high is 85 degrees. The average high in winter is 67 degrees, and highs frequently flirt with 80 in the spring and fall. It doesn’t rain much — less than 8 inches a year—which means the weather is ideal for hiking, lounging poolside or watching a spring training baseball game. And as for summer? Hey, it’s hot. The old axiom is that “it’s a dry heat,” and there’s truth to that. The Sonoran Desert’s super-low humidity means 90-degree temperatures feel quite nice, and the arid climate causes perspiration to evaporate quickly, keeping you cooler and drier

Downtown Phoenix is a sunny oasis for work and play. With the Phoenix Convention Center, sports stadiums, arenas, concert venues, performing arts theatres, Phoenix Symphony and events always happening, it’s a relaxed but exciting atmosphere. Hip restaurants, boutiques, art galleries attract a youthful crowd, especially on First Fridays for America’s largest art walk.
